Aaargh! Why do builder and client have to be this way!
Published on May 28, 2005 By PurrBall In WinCustomize Talk

I've just started to use DX 3 alot now and am noticing how annoying switctching inbetween Builder and Client are. First, I have to bring up DX3's Welcome to switch to builder from client just to save the theme with an object removed. I should be able to save in Client. Next, all of the Load options should be on the systray icon's menu like it used to be in 2.x. Oh, and did I metion that I need to unload all of DX just to get into Client from Builder? There should be a switching option on the systray context menu also.

I hope Stardock thinks about these and the ease of use of their program.

Oh, and I found a bug: Sometimes in the object's properties box where the image is upposed to be theere is just a down arrow in a box. I noticed this on the banners on SDC once also.

Also, how do I set antialiasing? The DX3 setting is making a lot of my text look bad (low res screen here.).
I just want to make sure we're on the same page - we want to make sure we address things you guys want changed. But at the same time, i don't want to change things simply because some of you don't want to have to spend any time getting used to legitimate changes in DesktopX 3.

I hope you'll please change it so that I dont have to close DX3 to get back into client.

A little option on the DX context menu such as 'Switch to DesktopX Bulider' and 'Switch to DesktopX Client' for ease of use.

Here it's not a matter of getting used to, its not having to shut the whole program down. If you set Builder to be the default, then there is no way to get into client unless you choose not to have Builder to be the default, but then you still would have to close the program and start it again.

Again, please put a switching link into the context menu in the next build (even beta) that comes out and see the reactions.
I know I'll be one saying 'woohoo.'

If possible (it may be a Windows problem) this should probably be fixed also.

Hmm, just noticed some of the DX 32x32 icons have black where the shadows should be.

Or is that 'Something that I need to get used to'?

Skinner Meowy ...sarcasm isn't appropriate.  It can also be 'annoying'.....

I know it isn't appropriate. Just wanted to express my feelings.

It can only be annoying if it is used over and over in the same way.

No....once is annoying.  It's generally referred to as 'the lowest form of wit'.

Sometimes I seem to be too subtle for my own good.  For "isn't appropriate" read "insulting".....

I'm not even sure what Meowy is talking about.  IconX handles icon text and it is configurable.

Now I'm lost too.

If you're talking about icons, let's have a look:

See how 48x48 icons look perfect, but on 32x32 the blends are right, but the shadow is black?

Meowy, this has nothign at all to do with DesktopX. Now you're totally off on a tangent.

Look closely as your screenshot -- you're using 32x32 true color icons there (Windows 2000/Windows 98, etc.) , not the Windows XP 32x32.  You should be posting this into a tech support forum or something.

Let's stay focused my friends..

Those are the stock DX icons...
Nothing to do with me.

Yesterday in DX I just assumed that DX would save my theme when I closed it (Im still used to DX2 here), but when I opened it back up, it wasnt saved.

Well, i was this close--- to buying desktopx3 this morning untill i read this thread

~I too have had desktopX for a long time and I'm just starting to use it. Im lucky enpugh to have someone that coaches me on what to do and where to start. The program is great, just a bit complicated for people like me that need easier directions. But, once you learn the basics..your in business.

DesktopX saves my desktop just fine. But it doesn't save widget layouts. Maybe it should do that too.

I know. That is a shame......

Can someone please revamp the widget engine??? Pleeeaaassse???????

Revamp the widget engine?

Right now, you can right-click on a widget and set it to come back on auto-start. The feature being discussed is a way for th ewidget manager to make all the widgets automatically re-start.  It has nothing to do with widgets or anything but rather what should be auto-loaded.
