Aaargh! Why do builder and client have to be this way!
Published on May 28, 2005 By PurrBall In WinCustomize Talk

I've just started to use DX 3 alot now and am noticing how annoying switctching inbetween Builder and Client are. First, I have to bring up DX3's Welcome to switch to builder from client just to save the theme with an object removed. I should be able to save in Client. Next, all of the Load options should be on the systray icon's menu like it used to be in 2.x. Oh, and did I metion that I need to unload all of DX just to get into Client from Builder? There should be a switching option on the systray context menu also.

I hope Stardock thinks about these and the ease of use of their program.

Oh, and I found a bug: Sometimes in the object's properties box where the image is upposed to be theere is just a down arrow in a box. I noticed this on the banners on SDC once also.

Meowy, let's try to keep on topic here okay?  OD LaunchPad isn't DesktopX and it does what it's supposed to do - introduce a new user to Object Desktop.  We make a dock program that you can get if you want to make your own ideal launchpad.

Well, i was this close--- to buying desktopx3 this morning untill i read this thread. I have windowblinds, icon packager, sysmetrix, I really love those weather widgets though. Is it worth it? Should i try free trial first?

brickhead: You should always download the trial and see if it'll work and whether you like it before spending the cash. The whole point of the trials is for that very reason.

Oh, yes, Jafo was torturing me about getting off topic a while ago...

Sorry.

The trials ARE a must. )

Even with these few inconveniences, for what this product does, yes, it IS worth the money.

Try the trials first, though, still.

One part of the main thread that I must agree on it the entire Builder/Client methodology. I find it cumbersome and unfriendly. Would much prefer to see it changed back to how it used to be. As a workaround I do as Aufisch does, I just put a shortcut to builder on my start panel.

I guess it's a good thing Brad's come to this thread.

Please have this fixed.

You might consider upgrading to Object Desktop instead of buying all these programs separately.  It includes these programs and a lot more.

I don't like the Builder/Client method too, i like better the DX2 way.

Yes, and I thought version 3 was going to be great before I installed it.

You guys do know you can set the builder to be default right?

In other words, if you want it to run like DeksotpX 2, you can, just click that option and from then on, when you load a .dxpack or .desktop or whatever it'll use DesktopX builder.

Yes, I know, but client seems to run faster on this comp, plus I cant mess anything up o Client. ;o)

What skin is that?
on May 31, 2005
Thats the Star Wars alienware skin, I think.

Yes i know but don't bother with me, i'm not a "real" DX user for now. I hope i become one someday.

DX is a very powerful tool, i just need more time to understand it better.

I just want to make sure we're on the same page - we want to make sure we address things you guys want changed.  But at the same time, i don't want to change things simply because some of you don't want to have to spend any time getting used to legitimate changes in DesktopX 3.

The DesktopX Builder app only has 3 pages of settings with preferences being one page with only a couple of options.  Power users certainly would prefer to have DesktopX builder be the default but the average, casual, user does not.

I do think we should probably have the option up on installing to set that item though.

i have it set to run builder by default but i see the dialog brad has shown each and every time i boot up the machine. i see no reason for it to display after each boot. maybe my system is hosed, tho.
